The following are a few thoughts on the difference between prayer and intercession that I hope will help clarify both the journey and the destination that are experienced when you are committed to seeking God.
Prayer is referenced 316 times in the Bible,
Intercession is found only ten times.
It is interesting to note that the word following "intercession" in your concordance is "intercourse."
Both speak of a closeness to God, that results in an intimate dialogue and great effectiveness.
Prayer focuses on "thing-dom," or dominion over things.
Intercession focuses on King-dom or dominion over kings.
Prayer takes and hour of your day.
Intercession requires a season of your life.
Pray-ers watch their clocks.
Intercessors mark their calendars.
Prayer is over when you say, "Amen."
Intercession is over when God says, "Amen."
Prayer is casting all of our cares on God.
Intercession is receiving an assignment from God.
Prayer is learning how to fight the good fight.
Intercession is learning how to win the war.
The word "intercessor" is not found in the Bible. I believe this is because intercession is not a spiritual gift to possess or an office to hold, but a place to serve the Body of Christ.
Blessings from a fellow traveler.

well said! amen!
Dear Intercessory Prayer Team and Leader Mary Jo:
First, I just want to thank you all and offer my appreciation for your heartfelt and souls touching ministries. Jack, your suggesting to "give Him permission to wake us"...was a new thought for me,..and I have soon come to realize that my waking in the night, was so naturally followed by going to a quiet place and praying, and then later, back to bed, quite at peace, having listened openly for assignements, and thanked Him.
Mary Jo, I want to thank you in particular for your passionate and emotion filled teachings....Your pleas to "lean into these teachings", be changed and become a difference maker in His kingdom by "coming into agreement with His assignments" for us...are so hitting the targets in my heart and soul. Please KNOW that your opening your heart with moving testimonies is helping many of us really understand and step up our prayer lives with great convictions and expectations. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
You ABSOLUTELY are making such wonderful impacts in His kingdom.
I will offer a scripture and commentary that fits well in me today....particularly in light of the "transforming" aspect of your teachings, our new spiritual addresses....
Romans 12:2
Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is -- his good, pleasing, and perfect will.
Thoughts on today's verse
Don't be molded by the world. Wow, isn't that a tough one to obey? It's a reminder that what we think is one of the places of greatest spiritual warfare. Sloppy thinking is more than sloppy, it's dangerous because we are fed messages constantly that distort God's truth and holy values. But rather than being incensed by the world acting like the world, let's be transformed by renewing our minds and doing what Paul said he did -- take every thought, every word, captive for Christ. We often think a tithe is giving ten percent of our money, but an even more vital tithe is giving ten percent of our thought time totally to the things of God!
After last Monday evenings class, (10/13/08),God spoke a word to my heart, and I believe this is truly on His heart for all of us. He said, "Run with MY Spirit."
